About the General Practice Dentistry Program

The General Practice Dentistry Program at Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network offers two distinct one-year approved residency programs designed to reinforce and expand on principles learned in a four-year pre-doctoral dental program, while the residents deliver advanced comprehensive dental care in the hospital environment.

The programs will enable the resident to:

  • Develop confidence in clinical and patient management skills.
  • Become confident and competent in the care of medically compromised patients.
  • Become competent in admitting patients to the hospital and providing care in the operating room setting. Residents will be encouraged to maintain hospital privileges after completion to their residency.
  • Perform critical and scientific reviews of the dental and medical literature through study clubs and the use of the hospital library computer system.
  • Form an attitude of discipline for continuing education through hospitals, universities, dental societies and literature.
  • Deliver comprehensive dental care and gain experience in oral surgery, operative dentistry, preventive dentistry, fixed and removable prosthetics, periodontics, endodontics, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, basic implant dentistry and pain and anxiety control.
  • Be familiar with the business skill needed to operate and manage a private dental practice.
