A “No. 1 Nurse”

Read about her, our new cath lab and some “knights” in shining chrome

“Lehigh Valley’s No. 1 Nurse”
That’s how Mike Bernhard describes his wife, Kathy Bernhard, R.N. (right), who has cared for HIV patients for more than 20 years. So he nominated Kathy for 100.7 WLEV-FM’s monthly search for the region’s best nurse. Kathy, who has worked in the AIDS Activities Office for the past six years, was selected as “Lehigh Valley’s No. 1 Nurse” for February. Mark Shepperd, also known as “Shep” and host of the station’s Morning Express, recently presented Bernhard, a nurse for 35 years, with a gift basket and an iPod from DeSales University. 

The Latest Lab
A new all-digital cardiac catheterization lab recently opened in LVH-Cedar Crest’s Regional Heart Center. It is our seventh lab and features the latest imaging equipment, flat-panel monitors and a larger floor plan for caregivers (l-r) registered cardiovascular invasive specialist Lisa Antolik, cardiologist Nainesh Patel, M.D., and Sarah Mayes, R.N., to perform procedures to diagnose and treat coronary artery disease. Including the center’s two electrophysiology labs, more than 400 patients receive care in the labs every month.   

Knights in Shining Chrome
When members of the local chapter of the Red Knights Motorcycle Club wanted to make a difference, they decided to donate $1,000 to our Regional Burn Center. “We’re all either active or retired firefighters,” says chapter president Brian Sames. “It seemed like a natural fit.” Recently, club members toured the burn center, including (l-r) Doug Little, social worker Liz Dideon Hess, Sames, Hal Hughes, physician assistant Patricia Muller, Dale French, Kevin Fox and burn center director Jackie Fenicle, R.N.
