About Family Medicine

Having decided to become a family doctor, I'm sure you have no doubt that you've chosen one of the most challenging specialties in medicine. Your next important decision is where to complete your residency training. I would like to personally invite you to consider the Lehigh Valley Family Medicine Residency Program. Please plan to come and meet us and learn about the unique educational opportunities that we offer. I am confident that you will discover a stimulating environment for learning and professional growth.

We are dedicated to the ideals that make family medicine unique - continuous, compassionate, quality care for families. Since many programs share these same ideals, what is it that makes our program special? We are special because of our clinical excellence, innovative education, leadership skills development and commitment to life-long learning. Let me mention just a few examples.

Because of our clinical excellence we emphasize patient-centered, evidence-based medicine practices at the point-of-care. We will teach you how to access and utilize resources in the exam room so that you can keep pace with the ever-changing and ever-expanding wealth of medical information. Our innovative educational curriculum includes both mini-block and longitudinal rotations that allow for flexibility and accommodate the various learning styles of our residents.

We consider leadership skills development an essential component of physician education and incorporate opportunities to develop these skills within our curriculum. Finally, we are committed to the personal support and growth of our residents by our attention to self-reflection as we guide our residents through all stages of development as physician healers. Our program has highly qualified, supportive faculty and enthusiastic residents all actively involved in the growth, development and excellence of our program. We have created an environment that makes learning safe, exciting and a habit that will last a lifetime. As a community, we share the values of compassion, integrity and sensitivity, and our patients are the ultimate beneficiaries of these values.

I cannot possibly tell you everything about our program in this brief greeting, so I invite you once again to come and learn for yourself how we accomplish our commitment to the ideals of family medicine through our curriculum. I look forward to your visit.
