Obstetrics and Gynecology

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology provides an approved four-year residency program for five residents per year.

Training in obstetrics includes the management of high-risk pregnancies, antepartum diagnosis in a well-equipped Perinatal Diagnosis and Testing Center, obstetrical ultrasound and fetal monitoring during labor. Low-risk and operative obstetrics are emphasized, including forceps and vaginal breech deliveries.

Training in gynecology includes microsurgery; diagnostic and operative laparoscopy; urogynecology; urodynamic testing; hysteroscopy; radical pelvic surgery; gynecologic oncology; reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and general gynecologic procedures. All private and clinic service cases are available for teaching and provide the resident with in-depth clinical experience. Additionally, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has implemented an MFM initiative, which allows for 24-hour, seven days a week maternal-fetal medicine in-house coverage.

Residents receive extensive training in outpatient obstetrics and gynecology in the Center for Women's Medicine. This facility is open five days a week and provides care for all patients regardless of their ability to pay. Residents are responsible for the care of over 10,000 women each year in an innovative approach that promotes continuity of patient care and models private practice.
