A Message From Dr. Sussman
It has been said that the two most critical things in life are your freedom and
your health. Without them, no one can thrive. At Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health
Network, our charitable mission is to heal, comfort and care for the people of our
community, and it is a mission we take very seriously.
We dedicate ourselves to quality care day in and day out. In 2006, U.S.
News & World
Report ranked Lehigh Valley Hospital as one of America’s Best Hospitals for
the 11th consecutive year. Only 3 percent of U.S. hospitals earn this distinction
in one or more specialty areas, and we earned it in eight—more than any other
hospital in our region has ever achieved.
We are also very proud of our nurses, who go above and beyond to care for our patients
every day, thus helping ensure safe, high-quality care. The American Nurses Credentialing
Center recognizes our nurses’ excellence with Magnet designation. It is the
gold standard for nursing care, earned by fewer than 4 percent of hospitals nationwide.
One of our hallmarks of quality is how we link patient care, education and research.
We liken our model of care to a tricycle, with the smaller, rear wheels of education
and research powering the larger, front wheel of patient care. Our education and
research initiatives contribute to the quality of patient care by bringing to the
Lehigh Valley the finest teaching physicians and nurses and the very latest medical
knowledge.
Our unique model of care creates what we call an academic community hospital. It
helps us best fulfill our mission and ensure that we’ll be here to care for
the people of our community now and for generations to come.
